our wedding ceremony—

Date:
September 29, 2006

Place:
Inyo County Courthouse in Independence, California

Details:
As part of a road trip to the Owens Valley (eastern Sierras), we were married in a private civil ceremony by the Honorable Brian J. Lamb, Inyo County Superior Court Judge, in the quaint historic town of Independence, California.  The proceedings took place outside, in the beautiful park-like backyard of the Courthouse.

Every aspect of our ceremony was lovely—from the physical setting, to the weather, to the vows themselves.  Judge Lamb, as well as court clerks Gail Shults and Patricia Barton (who served as witnesses and photographers), were wonderful to us...and we couldn't have been happier.  It was our perfect dream wedding! :)

[We have not yet had an official wedding reception, although my parents did host a dinner celebration for immediate family in the local area.  We plan to eventually hold a belated wedding (ok, anniversary) reception at some point, so stay tuned!]

our story—

Peter and I first became acquainted in spring 1998, when he emailed a response to my online personals ad.  After exchanging a few email messages and talking once on the phone, we agreed to meet in person — for "coffee" — on the afternoon of May 17.  That first date ended up lasting more than 8 hours...so I guess you could say we hit it off. ;)  In fact, Peter called me the very next day, and we've been together ever since!

Peter and I are best friends, and our life together since 1998 has been a wonderful adventure.  Peter keeps me laughing with his wacky and irreverent sense of humor, and he shows me on an ongoing basis how to look for that silver lining.  I keep him organized, and he appreciates my quiet, consistent, responsible nature.  I love Peter's cooking; he relies on me to be his "sys admin."

In marrying Peter, I have been honored by gaining three wonderful step-daughters.  In marrying me, Peter has adopted two fabulous feline furbabies.   The current chapter in our lives involves the purchase (in March 2006) of our first home together.

Peter's and my favorite activities include:
  • road trips (exploring small towns, back roads, ghost towns, scenery, and wildlife)
  • working on our house & yard
  • communing with animals
  • hiking
  • listening to music
  • drinking really good coffee
  • barbecuing
  • watching TV (particularly crime dramas, forensics/real crime programs, news, and classic 60s/70s shows)
  • looking up random stuff online
  • being irreverent and laughing our asses off
  • talking about everything under the sun
We share an appreciation for music, animals, the ocean, nature, health/exercise, science, forensics, history, biographies, pop culture, and the absurdities of life.  We're both self-employed, committed to a healthy lifestyle & personal growth, and interested in progressive politics.

our registries—

Our official wedding registries have all been fulfilled and/or have expired.  However, we still maintain two household wishlists—at amazon.com and thethingsiwant.com.
